Step One:  Get to know yourself

• Set realistic career goals

• Conduct informational interviews

• Be able to articulate strengths, values, and specific skills

• Gain exposure to fields you're considering

• Obtain experience through an internship, part-time job or volunteering

Step Two:  Prepare for the job search

• Résumé is perfect and reflects strengths

• Basic cover letter is written and proofed

• References are informed of your career goals and ready to speak positively on your behalf

• Participate in a mock interview

• Interview skills are polished

• Purchase interview attire

• Become familiar with dining etiquette in case a meal is part of the interviewing process

Step Three:  Conduct a job search

• Use Reference USA in the Career Center

• Attend Career Expo

• Register with Experience

• Network, network, network

• Participate in on-campus interviews

• Utilize multiple job search strategies

• Understand the negotiation process
