Employers want to check 3 references; you should provide 4-5 in case at the time of calling some are unreachable.

References should be people you are confident will speak highly of your work style, projects and motivation.

When asking someone to be your reference, provide them an updated resume and a job description so they can speak to your qualifications.

Create a separate reference sheet with the same header as your resume.

Supply references when requested, but do not put "References available upon request" on your résumé.

Supply the name, title, employer, mailing address, phone number, email address and the reference's relationship to you.
