Career Assistants


In Center Public Relations Design

In Center
  • Greets every guest to the Career Center, offering assistance and the highest quality of customer service.
  • Critiques resumes and cover letters for students on a walk-in basis.
  • Builds knowledge of resources to assist students, faculty and other Career Center constituents the library, basic e-recruiting, and requests for appointments and programs.
  • Assists full-time staff with projects on an as-needed basis, including Expo 411, Career Expo, Haunted House, Graduation Fairs, Spring Event, etc.
  • Projects a professional image congruent with the mission of the university and the Career Center.
  • Files jobs, information and bulletins in appropriate binders and cabinets as needed.
  • As time is available, works on special assigned projects or the duties listed below.
  • Answer phone by saying, “Hello, Career Center.  This is _____.  How may I help you?” and directing calls as appropriate.

Public Relations

Primary responsibilities include: 

  • Develops and executes, with assistance from professional staff, a publicity calendar for each major career center event—expos, workshops, etc.
  • Works with Design Team and Intern to produce fliers, posters, ads, etc. as needed to publicize events.
  • Contacts campus clubs and organizations once each semester to facilitate workshops and increase knowledge of career center resources.
  • Assists each semester with Road Trips in each of the academic buildings on campus through set-up and tear down of display and popcorn machine.  Helps during Road Trips with greeting students, handing out materials, and promoting Career Center services.
  • With other members of the team, plans and executes three new promotional campaigns each semester within a specified budget.

In addition to the above responsibilities, the CA will do the following as needed:

  • Greet every guest to the Career Center, offering assistance and the highest quality of customer service. 
  • Build a knowledge of resources to assist students, faculty and other Career Center constituents with the library, basic e-recruiting, and requests for appointments.
  • Participate in Career Center assessment by making sure every guest is signed in and usage is recorded.
  • Assist full-time staff with projects on an as-needed basis, including Expo 411, Career Expo, Haunted House, Graduation Fair, Spring Event, etc.
  • Project a professional image congruent with the mission of the university and the Career Center.
  • File jobs, information and bulletins in appropriate binders and cabinets as needed.
  • Answer phone by saying, “Hello, Career Center.  This is _____.  How may I help you?” and directing calls as appropriate.

Design

The Design Team are responsible for creating publicity items such as posters, fliers, table tents, etc. at the request of full time staff, interns, or the PR Team.

Typical Responsibilities and Duties

  • Designs materials requested by staff for newspaper ads, fliers, large posters, brochures, photographs and more.
  • Has experience with computer-based design software and must submit design samples with application.
  • Works collaboratively with Communication intern and other Career Center employees to maximize promotions and events.
