Frequently Asked Questions

Q.  Who is the Career Center for?

A.  The Career Center is for everyone.  It doesn't matter if you're a first-year, sophomore, junior, or senior, we can help you find what you're looking for in our office.  The earlier you become familiar with the services offered in the Career Center the better.  There is something for everyone!

Q.  Where can I find part-time off-campus or on-campus job listings?

A.  Visit eRecruiting at http://truman.erecruiting.com/er/security/login.jsp.

Q. Do I have to make an appointment to see someone in the Career Center?

A.  The Career Center is staffed with Career Assistants who are trained to assist students with all aspects of the career development process.  They can assist you on a walk-in basis including resume and cover letter critiquing.  If you wish to see a Career Counselor, you would need to schedule an appointment or drop by during walk in hours.

Q.  How long can books be checked out?

A.  Designated books may be checked out for three days.  Books are due back on Monday if checked out on Wednesday or Thursday.

Q.  What kind of testing do you offer?  Is there a fee for the test?

A.  Two inventories - the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) and the Self-Directed Search (SDS) are available by making an appointment with a career counselor.  There is a small fee for taking these inventories.

Q.  Who recruits at Truman State University?

A.  From large corporations to burgeoning entrepreneurs, from the private, public and non-profit sectors, Truman attracts a wealth of the nation and region's  best employers. Employers are found in the fields of health care (both traditional as well as administrative), manufacturing and management industries, public law enforcement and justice related agencies, scientific research-based industries, accounting and marketing groups (within cross-related fields as well as specialized firms), a number of consumer product companies and retailers, and many other fields that reach across the occupational spectrum.

Q.  How many students go on to Business, Professional, Law & Medical School?

A.  More than 50% of each graduating class goes on to graduate school.  Graduate school preparation materials are located in the Career Center library.
